Frequently Asked Questions

How does SmartDock work?

SmartDock responds to a scheduling request by displaying pertinent PO information, vendor data, and the current appointment status of every receiving door. The recommended unloading time for an order is calculated based upon historical data.

Further refinements of this time calculation are applied taking into consideration the type of shipping device used, the actual SKUs on the order, and a choice between an average time or a linear regression time calculation. Completing the appointment process is made easy by SmartDock graphically displaying the current status of all the dock doors of your warehouse. These graphic displays are automatically updated, a critical feature in a multi user environment.

You can override any appointment by dragging and dropping the time bar from door to door, day to day, or warehouse to warehouse. Dock doors can be grouped so that product is received at the door closest to its put-away slot.

How quickly does SmartDock setup?

Setup is completed within a few hours so you're up and running in the shortest amount of time. The straight-forward control screens in SmartDock are easy to understand, even new computer users can operate the program immediately.

How are appointment changes handled?

You can change a door or warehouse assignment at any time by graphically displaying the P.O. and simply dragging and dropping it to a new door and time slot. You can override automated scheduling by forcing a P.O. to extend beyond normal receiving hours or by receiving at a door not normally used by a particular vendor. SmartDock is flexible and conforms to your operational requirements.

Can SmartDock tell me when buyers have exceeded warehouse capacity?

SmartDock alerts you to when your warehouse receiving capacity has been reached for normal receiving hours. Receiving hours and normal door assignments can be overridden to accommodate holiday or seasonal receiving volume.

What information and reports can I get from SmartDock?

Reports in SmartDock track actual vs. projected receiving times, on-time performance, unloading time, yard time vs. unloading time by carrier or vendor, no show reports, and overdue P.O. reports.

You can accurately track unloading times for vendors that use Menu Pricing, Activity Based Costing (ABC), or Streamline Logistics. You will know what the exact performance was for each PO to qualify for best bracket pricing from these vendors.

What about LTL receiving?

LTL receiving can be scheduled using LTL receiving dock assignments or vendor door assignments. Both are displayed.
