Greetings!
Customer Profile - Golub - Price Chopper
A Long History
In 1900, Lewis Golub, a Russian immigrant, came to America. He settled
in Schenectady, NY. Shortly before his death in 1930, Lewis Golub merged
his company with one owned by Joseph Grosberg so his sons, Bernard and
William would be part of a larger, stronger firm.
In 1937, Bill and Ben Golub met with other supermarket leaders and forged
a national association, now called the Food Marketing Institute (FMI).
From 1990 to 1998 Price Chopper doubled its number of stores through buyouts
in Vermont, more in Pennsylvania and Worcester, MA and the first store
in Connecticut, making the number of stores reach over one hundred.
Price Chopper now owns and operates 110 stores in New York, Massachusetts,
New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont and Pennsylvania. Golub’s over
20,000 employees collectively own 55% of the company’s privately
held stock.
Although Bernard Golub died in 1972 and Bill Golub passed away in 1992,
a new generation of Golub's shape the corporation's destiny. Lewis, Bernard's
son, and Neil, William's son, learned the business from their fathers.
Today, Lewis Golub serves as Chairman of the Board, while Neil Golub serves
as President and Chief Executive Officer.
During the last few years, Price Chopper has applied information technology
(IT) very aggressively, particularly to its Point of Sale (POS) operations.
Price Chopper uses TMS-2000 and SmartDock software from BGI.
Tech Talk - .NET Report Viewer
BGI has released the production version of our .NET Report Viewer. This
product allows you to run any TMS-2000 or SmartDock report from any place
with Internet access to the database. Reports are saved on your local
PC for later viewing and analysis. Reports can be produced in Rich Text,
CSV, PDF and Excel spreadsheet formats. Saved reports can be emailed or
faxed from the Viewer on your PC. The Viewer can be used on a local area
network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) or the Internet.
The advantage to local LAN/WAN use is that report requests run in the
background eliminating wait times from within TMS-2000 or SmartDock. Call
Peter Rappe or Tom Walton for more information.
More Tech Talk...
Some TMS-2000 customers using SQL Server, have reported minor issues which
are caused by not having the current version of Microsoft Data Access
Components (MDAC) running on their local client PC's. To verify that your
PC is running the current version of MDAC, in TMS-2000, select Help/Tech
Info. In the upper right hand corner, within the Operating System Information
group box, the following information should exist:
DB PLATFORM: SQLSERVER; MDAC 2.8(2.81.117.6)
If your version is different than this, please contact us at support@bgiweb.com.
This can most easily be done by selecting the Email button on the Diagnostics
page.
BGI Web Services
BGI Web Services is an Internet communications module that enhances carrier
dispatching from TMS-2000. It supports carrier web tendering, confirmation
of load receipt, pick up confirmations at the vendor, and progressive
dispatch where multiple carriers can be prioritized and assigned to a
load. Web services volume has grown dramatically year to date with 56
users booking 45,550 loads.
SmartDock
BGI has been experiencing exponential growth with our Dock Scheduling
application - SmartDock. Fueled by new Bio-Terrorism rules that take effect
in December 2005, many prospects are finding that SmartDock is the missing
link in the new "chain of custody" tracking requirements. If you would
like to request additional information about SmartDock or to schedule
an on-line demonstration please click
